In today's fast-paced world, consumers expect quick and effortless access to products, and with an abundance of food delivery options, complaints are inevitable. Consumers and delivery drivers face three primary issues: concern over tamper evidence, damaged or improperly delivered orders, and an overall lack of convenience and sustainability. Our solution, the Sip ‘n’ Stack: a 100% curbside recyclable modular packaging system designed to accommodate interchangeable primary food packaging. Designed with stability and ease of assembly in mind, the packaging system enhances product protection during transportation and handling, ensuring a seamless experience for consumers, delivery drivers, and store employees. Additionally, the delivery box easily unfolds into a tray for secondary use, with perforated drink cutouts that double as coasters.
The outer corrugated box is available in two sizes to accommodate various orders; the small carrier holds two drinks, while the large carrier accommodates up to four. Perforated drink holes easily punch out, allowing beverages to sit securely, partially emerging from the base while keeping the rest of the order enclosed to avoid tampering. This enables delivery drivers to place the smaller package in their vehicle’s cup holders for added stability during transport and easy access, while maximizing the capacity of the delivery box. When no beverages are ordered, the perforations remain intact, thus maintaining the stability of the packaging.
To further streamline the process, the design includes a designated compartment for cutlery and sauces, along with a sticker that serves as a place for customer names and a way to attach the receipt, ensuring a seamless grab-and-go experience for the drivers. By optimizing space, preventing spills and leaks, and keeping all order components organized and consolidated into one package, this system allows drivers to pick up and transport multiple orders efficiently in a single trip while maintaining hassle-free delivery process and optimizing their work time.
Additionally, the design considers the end-user’s experience. The outer box is constructed without adhesive, so it easily unfolds into a tray to allow food to be enjoyed in any environment without the hassle of plates.
This same thoughtful approach extends to our primary packaging. Designed with modularity, sustainability, and efficiency in mind, we developed two auto bottom friction tuck-tab folding cartons that fit within the outer box, maximizing cube efficiency and accommodating various product offerings. The primary packaging accommodates both main and side dishes: one designed for items like chicken strips, hot dogs, and taquitos, while the other is designed for smaller items like chicken nuggets, donuts, and cookies. The system allows flexible configurations without wasted space or excess material, accommodating various meal combinations. The folding cartons provide a fully enclosed food compartment for freshness and protection, using food-safe coatings and plant-based ink. The auto-locking bottom allows for flat storage and quick assembly, optimizing storage space and assembly time efficiency.
This design targets three specific environments: retail, transportation, and end use. This modular packaging system makes the customer’s day a little more awesome by delivering fast, personalized convenience – when, where, and how they want it.
