Introducing the 7-Eleven Mix&Stack, the practical solution for delivery mobile-apps; it securely holds a combo meal with a drink while ensuring the food stays fresh, intact, and easily accessible for the end user.
The Mix&Stack is designed to hold up to two large boxes and two small boxes, on top of their varying sizes in the infamous drink cups (Slurpee and Big Gulp). The dimensions of the box ensure the packages inside experience minimal slippage, while the compact shape makes it convenient for store-inventory purposes while the top handle ensures easy carrying for the delivery personnel.
Traditional combo packaging often fails to accommodate drink holders, leading to potential spills or poorly fitted bags. The integrated, Push-&-Hold cup holder allows customers and delivery drivers to securely carry drinks while avoiding needs for separate carriers and cup holders. This modular design offers a secure department for increased stability of the entire meal during transportation, avoiding spillage and improving the overall experience for the delivery and consumer. Best of all, the shape is compatible with multiple delivery vehicles; cars, bikes, and scooters.
The box is made from 24pt bleached coated paperboard, a lightweight and durable material which supports the packages without being too heavy. The graphics were printed using environmentally-friendly and UV-resistant inks, ensuring that even if the package is left outside on a sunny day, the colours will remain vibrant. Furthermore, the single use packaging aligns with the ever growing demand for environmentally friendly packaging, where it minimizes material usage without compromising durability or functionality.
The design of the Mix&Stack embraces the existing look and feel of the 7-Eleven brand such as the striped 7, while also improving upon some aspects. We noticed the redundancy of logos on their primary packaging and solved them with a more streamlined design. Many of the QR codes did not work as intended or were obscured by nutritional information and vinyl stickers. To remedy this, the team created functioning QR codes built with accessibility on non-obstructive areas of the packaging. Finally, we repositioned the social media handles to be placed in a more beneficial viewing spot for users, ensuring proper brand promotion.
Commitment to a sustainable solution was of the utmost importance to the team, which is why we opted to minimize ink consumption for the primary packaging. Above all else, the team eliminated wastage and environmental risk points by reducing the packaging into a mono-material; a great advantage when considering the harmful effects of the plastic-film from the original packaging.
The modular small and large box system for the Mix&Stack reduces the need for 7-Eleven to carry different packages for different items. This universal packaging solution accommodates hot foods, snack items, and large prepared foods; all in a “one-size-fit all” package that stacks upon each other in a grid system.
7-Eleven Mix&Stack is more than a delivery solution, it is a statement. By prioritizing both functionality and aesthetics, we aim to make a tangible difference for delivery-mobile apps.
