Our Pull N’ Tear packaging system addresses the critical need for accessibility in consumer goods, particularly for individuals with arthritis and/or mobility issues. We introduce a user-friendly design that enhances independence and eliminates the need for external assistance. Our solution includes a two-finger pull tab system that makes it easy to rip the perforated tear strips, ensuring effortless opening without the use of scissors or other tools. This design is not limited to toothbrush packaging but can be adapted to various other products encased in annoying and tough-to-crack plastic packaging systems.
Sustainability is at the core of our redesign, as we use entirely paper-based materials, eliminating plastics and promoting recyclability. In addition, our packaging serves a dual purpose, providing a reusable display stand for the toothbrush after opening (and add a stylish touch to your counter!) Through affordances, imagery, and text instructions, we enhance user experience and guide consumers seamlessly through the opening and repurposing process. Our design is not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing, featuring a patterned motif reminiscent of a sparkling, clean molar and vibrant colors.
From an engineering perspective, our packaging features an ergonomic design suitable for individuals of all abilities. The two-finger pull tabs and perforated tear strips ensure ease of use, while tamper-evident features provide security and peace of mind. By addressing the challenges of accessibility and sustainability, our packaging redesign sets a new standard for the industry, offering a holistic solution that benefits both consumers and the environment.
