Since the Native Americans believed in leaving the earth they live on exactly as they found it. In a perfect world we wouldn’t have man-made trash that stays in landfills for decades, but let’s get real, that ship has sailed. This can be overwhelming, so let’s start small. Not only are Cereal boxes wasteful with their packaging, but they are hard to open and don’t keep your cereal fresh. Seriously, if you think those tabs on the top of the box do anything you’re living in a fantasy world.Solution, Yellow leaf, named after a nomadic tribe, uses rice paper packaging that is 100% biodegradable. Each section is perforated into a serving size that you can reseal. Eat it at home, or take it with you to work or school for a snack. This means no stale cereal, no extra material and the best part, limitless snack potential. Small changes can make a big impact.
Our strategy was to minimize packaging as much as possible. Our design concept is referencing Native Americans for their love and respect of the earth and natural way of life. For this, we chose to use a natural fiber-based completely biodegradable paper for the body and rice paper for the die cut window. Rather than a straight perforation, we used a triangle pattern found in Native American designs. For our colors, we chose an analogous color scheme to symbolize being close to the earth, much like native tribes. Our goal was to make our design flow upward, to inspire energy and positivity to our product and consumers.
